ANNOUNCEMENT: To kick off the final stages of the selection process, AJC is going LIVE!!!

That’s right, starting Thursday, May 29 @ 8pm CST 7million7years is coming to a web-cam near you! All you need to participate is a PC with sound and broadband connection – AJC has the web-cam!!

Click here for more details: http://7million7years.com/liveshould be a ton of fun!

Now, for today’s Featured Applicant …

    Meet Diane!

Diane is the first of the 7 Millionaires … In Training! applicants that I will be featuring … please join me in wishing her –  and all the other applicants that I will be featuring over the coming days – the best of luck:

As a 47-year-old cost/budget analyst with an MBA, handling my budget should be nooooooo problem, even coupled with a student loan of $30,000 for which interest I am not able to take a tax break – something the Dept of Education didn’t tell me when I was applying for student loans.

Two years ago, still struggling, I bought a home hoping that instead of pouring rent money down a hole, the tax benefits of the mortgage interest would save me a bit more (rent was about the same as the mortgage payments, but just a wee bit higher).  Then all the things associated with home ownership came into play, post divorce:  a bed for me, and one for one of my sons, two desks for them, a lawn mower, a weed eater, shovels, posthole digger, seed spreader, dirt (don’t ask!), snow shovel, paint for two rooms, a rescue dog who proceeded to tear down the blinds and curtains, a busted water pipe which cost a $1000 deductible for new carpeting, home owner’s associations fees, school tax fees, and city taxes, over and above the property tax, vet bills (normal), dog food….I lose track, but it all adds up.

I then joined a gym to lose weight and was very successful at that, became a zumba instructor in fact, which I am now trying to use to offset gas bills driving to the gym and zumba classes, but the gym membership is still being paid off as well.

Debt has blossomed and reached the point where last week, I turned off the cable and shut down the ISP, opting now for using Panera’s or the local library’s wireless internet access.

You’d think I’d know better – and I think I’m pretty smart – so, do you think AJ can help me?

    ______________________________________________

What is 7 Millionaires … In Training! all About?!

Recently, I sent out a Casting Call (you still have time to apply!) for what I call my “Grand Experiment” … a real attempt to create 7 Millionaires in just 7 Years!

My desire is to ‘prove’ that my methods for real wealth are replicable (you can read about them on my blog: How to Make $7 Million in 7 Years) – naturally, not by everybody, but by anybody with a dream, a desire, a will, and a way. If you supply the first three, I will help light the way …

Wow, hard to believe…. are you sure you’re a financial analyst… hmmmm.. makes one wonder exactly what an OSU MBA is really worth – JUST kidding. This really is one smart cookie.. if she doesn’t mind my using that term. In fact, one of the most intelligent women I have ever met. If anyone can do this, Diane can!! Best of luck, girl…

Thanks, Phyllis – that means a lot coming from you!

And Barry, you know that at this point in my life, I can’t do any of this without you, so your support means all the world to me!!! YOU’RE THE BEST!!!!!

  • Barry 6:00 pm on May 30, 2008 | #

Actually, Diane I know that you can do ALL of this without me; just remember that you’ll never have to.

  • Bill 6:22 am on June 4, 2008 | #

Thanks, Bill and Kevin!!! As brats (Phyllis, too), we do have unique perspectives on life!

  • AJC 4:23 pm on June 6, 2008 | #

@ Diane – Congrats … Final 15 is the next ‘hurdle’. GL! 🙂

  • Diane 10:38 am on June 10, 2008 | #

Well, waxing philosophical – on and off – might make for a way to pass the time, but seems like my real hurdles are getting my debt down….turning off the air was a good idea until the heat/humidity affected more than just me and my pooch! But the bill came way down ($26 from $58 from $100 in past months), and that was very heartening.

I remember visiting relatives without such luxuries and know that considering luxuries as necessities is part of how we get into some of these fixes.

  • Barry 10:27 pm on June 19, 2008 | #

Congratulations on making the “final 15”! What a great way to start the rest of our life. You know you have my full commitment and support, and I am 100% by your side in all of this. Go get ’em!

  • Anne 11:50 am on June 20, 2008 | #

Way to go Diane. Best wishes to you. You have the drive and ambition to be the next millionaire.

  • Deborah Bloodsworth 9:33 pm on June 20, 2008 | #

Wow, no AC, that’s a real sign of commitment to a better financial place in the future! You will make it! You’re our role model for perseverance and short term sacrifice for a long term goal. You go girl! We’re all behind you!

  • Phyllis Kay Aylor Larson 3:55 pm on June 22, 2008 | #

    Diane,

The people who hold out on things and strive and control their lives in a way not to be self indulgent are the ones who attain their goals.

I have a great appreciation for the medical professions and anyone who strives for the betterment of their lot and for their family and fellowmen. They succeed.

They know self control and determination even when obstacles come their way. You can be sure you are on the right track when obstacles occur. The more they come about the more you keep on truckin’. Never take your eyes off your goals. It’s about the journey…and keep smelling the roses along the way.

And remember even when you get where you are going “less is more”. No clutter or baggage to contend with. Freedom from attachments. Basic neccessities and simple indulgences will do you good. 🙂

    You go girl!

  • Kevin 6:55 am on June 23, 2008 | #

Woo Hoo! Good going Diane–a super congratulations on making the final 15! I’ll be rootin’ for you but I really have no doubt that you can do it.

  • Diane 11:33 am on June 23, 2008 | #

Thanks, everyone!!! It’s really great to come in here on Monday morning and read all the comments left for me – all the really thoughtful comments.

@Phyllis, I am sooooo into getting rid of stuff right now, that your comments really touched home about remembering that “less is more.”

@Sharon – Thanks for the super support!

@Kevin – I wanna see you do a cheer and some splits, now!! (La-de-dah…V-I-C-T-O-R-Y…that’s the Zama Trojan cry….) I’ll be picturing you rooting.

@ B.A.D. – (couldn’t resist those initials) – you guys are my strength and my foundation. Thanks for being there always. LoL.

  • Barry 8:34 am on June 29, 2008 | #

Well, it’s not as if we don’t talk about these things during the week, but I thought that maybe it was time for another public affirmation of my faith in you. You are special beyond words, and in my mind, belong in the final seven, hands down. I wonder where the number seven came from to begin with? We had seven original astronauts who went through a similar screening process, and seven has traditionally been considered to be lucky. But, regardless of luck in life or in this process, know full well that no matter what happens here, you’ll make it. Strike that; we’ll make it. I’m beside you without reservation. To me your true worth can never be measured by whether or not you fit some criteria, but rather by who you are inisde. Because of that I’m the wealthiest man on earth. Never stop being yourself. Just go for it.

Okay. Thanks for the challenge – I can see the benefits of doing this (oy veh! what have I got myself into!) Even this is scarey! LOL

Years ago – high school – I wrote poetry, and in one poem I had the person (girl, main viewpoint) hear her grandmother’s advice on living to “Dare to Live What Few Men Have Dared to Dream” – hee hee, now let’s get specific on that Rear Deck Speech, based on my Life’s Purpose. Good plan; better when I work it 🙂

    Merci Beaucoup.

Congrats Diane on making the final seven – while now the work and fun actually begin, with your supporting cast, I have no doubt that you will be a shining example for the rest of us who follow along. You are already “rich” – if you doubt this, look at your “assets” – Barry, sons, supporters, and of course this group – the only real thing missing is, the outward manifestation in your bank account.

Just keep working the process – although not easy it will get you to where you want to be.

Thanks for sharing with the rest of us

  • Di Eats the Elephant 7:51 am on September 2, 2008 | #

Thanks, Art – and thanks especially so because you were the first to tell me I made the final 7!!! This is the first time I’ve been online since last Thursday at work, and I got a feeling I missed something from Adrian as everyone else seems “off and running!”

  • AJC 9:53 am on September 2, 2008 | #

  • Barry 3:57 pm on September 2, 2008 | #

OK, so Labor Day is behind us now, so it’s back to work! I’m happy, but not surprised, that you made the final cut. I’d say “hang-in there”, but I know what an effort this entails, so that alone isn’t enough. Instead I’ll say, “I believe in you”. That should prety much cover it all.

  • Barry 3:59 pm on September 2, 2008 | #

And it should preTTy cover it all, too. When you make your $7 million can we afford to buy a spell-checker?

  • Di Eats the Elephant 7:05 pm on September 2, 2008 | #

@ Barry – Yeah, and maybe get you to stop reading that “Eat shoots and leaves” book – I told you the punctuation was not American! LOL
